A Time Of Action
Written and transcribed by Terry Grant
Below is a message I have transcribed and edited from a talk Ishvara gave on April 2, 2006. - TG.
Ishvara:
Just when you think human beings are becoming enlightened, they slip back into ignorance and fear, resistance and attachments. So what are you to do? How are you to live in this world of chaos and separation, fear and survival, control and manipulation, lying and cheating? There is no hope for the world as it is. The only hope that exists is in you. As you become more conscious, more aware, connected to all of Life around you, you can realize it is up to you. How will you live in the world of today to create a better world for tomorrow?
There seems to be so much that needs to be done that you can feel helpless. There are those who are making an effort to change things by marching, pleading, rioting, or protesting. The Internet is full of ideas and visions, but they all seem to fall short of realizing true change. Despite all the talk and ideas, the same things continue to occur in the world. It seems the world insists on taking one step forward, but then two steps backward.
Where are you to put your focus? You can focus on what is wrong with the world. Or you can even try to find something that is right with the world. There is a peppering of "right" here and there, bits and pieces of it. But what is necessary for humanity is a real change, a real transformation, a real acceleration, because you cannot fix the problem at the level of the problem. There must be a transcendence, a movement beyond it. That is an empowerment to you, because only you can see what is necessary from your perspective. Only you can realize what can happen for the world through the change that happens with you, seeing the connections with all of Life.
How you live your life--your attitude, the way you look at things around you, the connections you make, the relationships you form, the responsibilities you take upon yourself--all of these are about you, and they are within your power. Your ability to change yourself increases the possibility for the world to change. So what if the world changes one person at a time? History has shown many times that one individual can have a significant impact.
One individual can create great chaos and disruption. Actually, the world is very close to that again: One individual, through manipulation, control, cheating and deceiving, forces the world into mass chaos. It has happened over and over in history. But also, one individual who sees a larger connection, who has a greater realization for possibilities for human existence, who instills hope in situations and sees a better way, can make a big difference for the world. One individual!
In the past, just one individual has often affected the world for good or ill. The world, humanity, is made up of billions of individuals, billions of "you's" who have that possibility.
As you understand yourself, you gain the courage to embrace the possibility that lies within you--your uniqueness. It is so easy to go along with the crowd. It is so easy to feel powerless. The intellect says, "Well, everybody is doing it. Why not me? Why should I be different? Why should I strive for excellence when those around me are just running the programs, living in the conditions, the consensus reality? Why should I step out of line?"
Well, to put a little pressure on you: If you can't become all you can be as a human being, as an individual, the world will remain stuck in chaos, and eventually--maybe sooner than you hope or think--will use itself up. So there is a responsibility placed upon the human being, because there is a possibility of change and transformation.
You need courage. You cannot remain indifferent or complacent. This means that you stop making excuses for yourself, and you start realizing that there is something that can happen: You can make a difference. Yes, the individual "you" can make a difference. You know that you are a unique aspect and manifestation of the universe. You are an important part of the whole.
It is not a time to hide, to try to be the same. It is a time to embrace your uniqueness, a time to see the possibility of a greater world, a world that is in harmony and balance with the elements, the raw materials, where there is a sustainability for the earth and for humanity. To recognize that, you look beyond the appearances, the consensus reality, the conditions of things; you look to see what is possible. This is no time for passivity. It is a time of action: the action within yourself to see possibilities, to understand that as you take a new direction in your thinking, the field of the reality around you allows for change in the greater field of reality of the world.
